Past Tense- Tense chart for English Part I

                                                         PAST TENSE                         

5۔ PAST INDEFINITE TENSE

Subject + Verb 2nd + s/es + Object

 گیا ، گیئ  ، گیۓ  وغیرہ

He/she/it/singular noun + Verb 2nd  + Object

I/we/they/you/plural noun + Verb 2nd + Object

Adverbs: 

daily, every day, usually, never, always etc.

Examples:

1. He wrote poems some years ago.

2. He did not write poems yesterday.

3. Did he write poems two days ago?

4. Did he not write poems last year?

5. Why did you make a noise yesterday?


6۔ PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE

Subject + was/were + (Verb 1st+ing) + Object

رہا تھے ، رہی تھی ، رہے تھے ،رہیں تھیں  وغیرہ

He/she/it/singular noun + was+ (Verb 1st+ing) + Object

We/they/you/plural noun + were+ (Verb 1st+ing) + Object

I + was + (Verb 1st+ing) + Object

Adverbs: 

yesterday, previous day, last year etc.

Examples:

1. He was writing poems last year.

2. He was not writing poems yesterday.

3. Was he writing poems last year?

4. Was he not writing poems yesterday?

5. Why were you making a noise?


7۔ PAST PERFECT TENSE

Subject + had + (Verb 3rd) + Object

چکا تھا ، چکی تھی ،چکے تھے ،چکی تھیں  وغیرہ

He/she/it/singular noun + had+ (Verb 3rd) + Object

I/We/they/you/plural noun + had + (Verb 3rd)  + Object

Adverbs: 

before, till then, already  so far etc.

Examples:

1. He had already written many poems the previous year.

2. He had not written many poems last year.

3. Had he written many poems last year?

4. Had he not written poems before I wrote?

5. Why had you made a noise before the teacher came?


8۔ PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE

Subject + had + been (Verb 1st +ing) + Object

 سےرہا تھا ، سے رہی تھی ، سے رہیں تھیں  وغیرہ

He/she/it/singular noun + had been + (Verb+ing) + Object

I/We/they/you/plural noun + had been + (Verb+ing)  + Object

Adverbs: 

since , for 

Examples:

1. He had been writing poems for many years.

2. He had not been writing poems since morning.

3. Had he been many poems for two years?

4. Had he not been writing poems since March?

5. Why had you been making a noise for ten minutes?

     Today when I started my class I saw some colourful packs of sweets that my students had brought for all of the teachers to celebrate their results of the Secondary School Examination. First I called the roll-call and then I asked about their results. Everybody was so happy and eager to tell her marks. It was really surprising to hear that two or three of them had scored 100% marks i.e 1100 out of 1100. It was really surprising and I was really stunned to hear such outstanding marks in my whole career.  Students did appear in 9th grade/class, too. The marks will be calculated on the basis of the examination of the 10th class. Actually, due to the corona pandemic, the government announced that the students would appear only science subjects- Math, Chemistry, Physics, Biology - this year. The total marks of these subjects are equal to 600 including the marks of practicals. (there conducted no practicals also). And the rest of the marks were related to Arts subject...
